Given my feelings about the other two programs, you would think that Photoshop would be my favorite. It’s the fact that you can cram so many different elements into a single package that makes it so special. With the Adobe suite, it’s a lot to take in at first. And with the huge learning curve, you wouldn’t expect a beginner photographer to be able to quickly grasp it. However, much like the other Adobe apps, Photoshop gives you the luxury of having more control over your photos than your average consumer has. While you are not billed by the minute, Photoshop still costs money. Do not exceed the monthly usage limit. And make sure to make good use of it!

As I stated earlier, Lightroom is more involved than Photoshop and only handles RAW conversion. Lightroom is an editing application that allows you to get the most out of your images. I chose the paid version as the software is much better! You can get Adobe Elements for around $20, and I find it to be rather weak compared to Photoshop. With Elements, you have a lot less features and functions. Lightroom even allows you to share your photos in your own personal network, and pull photos in from online through WebDAV.

Here’s a quick example: we’ll take another example of a photo of a person that’s been adjusted for exposure and then have that background removed with a Content Aware Fill operation. As we use the Artist Color Navigator to explore the area of the photo that’s been cut out, we see that everything is still in place, except that there’s a big hole where the photo of the person is now.
