Adobe Photoshop, a popular image manipulation program, has been released in the Mac OS X version 10.4. Some users are reporting a problem with the Mac OS X version of the program. Users are having difficulty getting the software to run properly, and some believe that it’s been intentionally sabotaged. According to some users, the version of Photoshop that came with 10.4 is not working properly, and it either crashes or freezes up soon after launch.1 In some cases, users are unable to overwrite the program’s file because they can’t select a new program to replace it.
For both digital cameras and DSLRs, you can now pick from a check box of different available presets that can smooth images, crush noise and adjust colors. You can also adjust light and grain in PSD files. Other nice enhancements are in the context menu. There’s a new “Rotate” command that lets you rotate for printing, which is helpful for combined photos in a multipage layout. There’s also a new “Transparency” command for manipulating an image while leaving the other slides you’re using in the PSD unchanged. The Clean-Up command gives you a number of options including a new Cutout, Trim and Erase commands that let you make both rectangular and circular cuts, trim a mat or ellipse from an image and erase background or other unwanted areas.
“Underdraw”, a new feature, lets you create a vector outline to match any shape you draw on the canvas. Once you’re satisfied that you’ve achieved the desired shape, just delete the original image, leaving the underdefined reflective illustration as it is. This is a great feature that basically turns any scratch pad into an image editing tool. If you prefer “Underdraw” to “Outline”, you can click on the menubar, “View”, “Outline” or the “Zoom” tool options and grab and drag off each shape individually — take it easy as you won’t notice the shape as you remove it from your document.
As stated before, these new features were achieved through the Cloud. Adobe previously only offered a monthly subscription if you wanted to edit on the web. With Lightroom 5, you can now sign up for a six-month subscription that gives editing and sharing features without the need to create an online account or sign up for a new subscription each month.
Adobe Photoshop is available for Windows and Mac operating systems. The software requires a minimum of 64MB video memory, 500MB free disk space, and internet access to download Adobe Creative Cloud if you don’t already have it installed on your machine. Adobe Photoshop also works best when using an Intel Core Duo or better CPU with at least 512Mb RAM (or higher) Adobe Photoshop is available with Adobe Creative Cloud membership or as a standalone application purchase (Photoshop Elements). The download size of Adobe Photoshop is approximately 600MB (or larger depending on the version).
